A blog about Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, Queensland – a unique little paradise under forty kilometres as the seagull flies from Brisbane CBD.
Because of restraints on time, and let’s face it, only limited material on a small island, some posts are being recycled/updated from earlier.
There’s not a comment facility, but if you have a question, you can use the email gizmo near the bottom of the right-hand column.

Junk mail is supposed to be garbage, not about garbage.

Early-ish this morning at Lamblog Central, with South-East Queensland experiencing something of a heatwave, we almost suffered what could’ve been a disaster (albeit only a smelly first-world one). Unknown to us, this week our garbage collection day had been changed from Fridays to Thursdays (aka today). Luckily, we heard the garbage truck coming, and after some initial confusion about what day it was (not all that unusual when one lives an island lifestyle like ours), we got our bin out just in time.

But why hadn’t we been told? Um, oops, it turned out that we had been. Later, we found out that the Council had sent everyone a flyer about the change, delivered among the supermarket catalogues and other irrelevancies that get stuffed into our mailbox by a contractor every Monday morning and which we subsequently transfer, unread, straight into our recyclables bin. Is there some kind of irony there?
