A blog about Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, Queensland – a unique little paradise under forty kilometres as the seagull flies from Brisbane CBD.
Because of restraints on time, and let’s face it, only limited material on a small island, some posts are being recycled/updated from earlier.
There’s not a comment facility, but if you have a question, you can use the email gizmo near the bottom of the right-hand column.

This put a hole in our plans for a deck.

This is a Grass Tree (aka Xanthorrhoea australis) which was already growing where we wanted to build our deck. So we did the only thing we could, and constructed the deck around it, with a hole for it to extend through. Its trunk is about a metre long, and they’re such a slow-growing plant that this guy still doesn’t seem much taller than when the deck was built ten years ago.

Below, some of its cousins in a natural bush setting (photo by Hans van Wyk).
