A blog about Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, Queensland – a unique little paradise under forty kilometres as the seagull flies from Brisbane CBD.

Okay, but what if you get air-sick?

Lamb Island is a great place for retirement – although one of the questions people often ask is ‘What if you get sick out there on your island?’. The glib reply would be that with our clean air and relatively stress-free lifestyle, we’re not as likely to – but in reality, stuff happens.

If and when it does, there are doctors’ surgeries on Macleay and Russell Islands. We also have a 24/7 all-islands paramedic service, an ambulance on each of the islands, and a fast twin-hull ambulance boat to transfer non-urgent cases to a mainland ambulance then to hospital. And if it’s particularly urgent stuff that’s happening, a CareFlight rescue chopper zooms in and flies patients to hospital – arguably as quickly as a regular ambulance from some Brisbane suburbs. That said, none of us really likes hearing that chopper fly over.
